  • red ribbon EG Schools Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest
Red Ribbon Week is a national event honoring Enrique “Kiki” Camerena, a Drug Enforcement Administration special agent who was killed in 1985 by drug traffickers. Soon after, “Camerena Clubs” were launched in high schools by hundreds of students who pledged to lead drug free lives. In 1988, Congress proclaimed the first U.S. Red Ribbon Campaign. This year, Red Ribbon Week is October 23rd-31st.

Students and staff at East Greenwich will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week beginning Monday, October 24th. We would like everyone to wear RED on Monday, October 24th to show our unity for a drug-free future.

In honor of Red Ribbon Week, we will be having a poster contest to encourage and challenge our students to use their creativity in producing an original work of art on the topic of being drug-free. The winning students will be the one that produces the most interesting, creative poster which captures the message of the danger(s) of drugs and the need to make safe choices and respect our bodies. Three students from each grade level will be selected by the  teachers as winners.

    Requirements for the poster contest:
    • Poster can be on any size poster board/paper.
    • Any materials may be used (colors, paint, markers, computer graphics, etc.)
    • Poster must contain an anti-drug slogan.
    • Student’s name, homeroom teacher, and grade must be on the upper right hand corner of the back of the poster. No names on the front.

Posters are to be handed in to your homeroom teacher by Wednesday, October 26th. Late entries will not be  considered.

Although it is not mandatory, we invite everyone to participate in this contest. Do your best to show that you are choosing to have a DRUG-FREE future! If you have any questions, please contact:
